I have never attended a funeral for a veteran and seen a flag draped coffin or heard taps played in honor of that person so it was particularly special and extremely amazing to witness these honors on my Grandpa’s behalf. My Grandpa was an amazing man in many ways but his courage and strength was something that set him apart from many others. After receiving a draft notice he was given a deferral and did not have to go to war but my Grandpa saw the rest of his friends being drafted and sent to war so he enlisted in the Navy. My Grandpa fought in the Pacific during WWII, during which he contracted malaria and nearly died. Up until his passing my Grandpa was tough, he even carried a bat in his car and had one stashed under his bed just in case someone decided to mess with this WWII veteran. You truly were amazing Grandpa B, we love you and miss you.
